On Camera Presence
Visual impressions are lasting – a professional appearance ensures the best possible impression on your audience.
Preparation
Read through any script or rehearse talking points out loud, with an audience if possible, or at least in front of a mirror. This will save valuable time and help eliminate extra takes or “ums” and “ahs.”
Appearance
Dress in business-appropriate, interview-style wardrobe. Avoid tight patterns, plaids, or stripes, as these will produce a moire visual disruption in the camera lens. Plan to wear colors that contrast the background. Avoid wearing glasses if possible, as the glare on the lenses can be very distracting on camera.
Wardrobe
- Collared shirt, no wrinkles, slacks, belt, dress shoes
Hair
- Sprayed/layed down – eliminate all flyaways
- Styled professionally – no bedhead
- Comb, use gel or other product to style and control stray hairs. Strays always show clearly on camera and are distracting.
- Long hair should be pulled back or otherwise neatly groomed. Ensure face is completely visible.
Make-up
- Lightly applied, just enough to remove shine from skin.
- No heavy eye makeup
Face
- Clean shaven, or neatly groomed facial hair. Beard, eyebrows, nose, ears, etc.
- Neck must be clean shaven as this shows dramatically on camera
- Wash face before shooting video to remove oil/shine
